The uniqueness of hydrogels is that this polymer prevents undesired, unspecific interactions with biological (macro)molecules while closely resembling natural tissue. Nanopatterning promises to enhance our ability to understand the fundamentals of cell behaviour by mimicking the inherently nano-world of cells. As a result, biopatterned hydrogels can be employed for cell biology studies with the aim to control and understand microscopic responses of living cells. The work involves preparation of micro and nano-patterned templates functionalized with ligands and transfer the ligands along with the pattern to hydrogels.
